Big Gold Butterfly

Today's card features another current favourite stamp...'Big Butterfly' by Stampendous. I stamped it using Versamark Ink, then heat embossed it using 'Metallic Gold Rich' embossing powder from WOW...this was a recent purchase to replace some fairly ancient (at least 12 years old) Heat It Up powder, that was distinctly unimpressive when I tried it a few days ago...it was more dull brown than gold! I can't remember it being that bad - does embossing powder 'go off'?!?! I used Distress Inks to watercolour the butterfly (Broken China, Mermaid Lagoon, Chipped Sapphire & Tea Dye), then added some splatters of ink and a sentiment (from the 'Go To Words' set by Visible Image).

Big Butterfly

I have a card to share today that features possibly the least imaginatively named stamp I own...'Big Butterfly' by Stampendous. I stamped it on to some watercolour paper using Versamark Ink, the heat embossed it using 'Midnight Dream' embossing glitter by WOW. I used some Distress Inks (Chipped Sapphire. Broken China & Gathered Twigs) to watercolour the wings...then splattered some of the same inks over the top. I added a sentiment from the 'Fabulous Birthday' set by Hero Arts, distressed the edges a little, then added it to a kraft card blank.

Delicate Snowflakes

I have a Christmas card to share today..made at the same time as this birthday card that I blogged a couple of days ago...using the same technique. I started by stamping my snowflakes (from the 'Delicate Snowflakes' set by Stampendous) and sentiment (from the 'Letter It - Christmas' set by Ranger) on to watercolour paper using Versamark Ink, then heat embossed them in white. I watercoloured over the top using Distress Inks (Stormy Sky, Salty Ocean, Broken China Mermaid Lagoon & Peacock Feathers), distressed the edges a little, then added a few sequins.

Birthday Butterflies

I have another birthday card to share today...this one features a trio of butterflies (from the 'Penpattern Butterflies' set by Stampendous). I stamped the butterflies (along with a sentiment from the 'Sketched Flowers' set by Simon Says Stamp) on to a piece of watercolour paper using Versamark Ink, then heat embossed them in white. I used three Distress Inks (Picked Raspberry, Seedless Preserves & Blueprint Sketch) to watercolour over the top, then distressed the edges a little and added a few sequins for a touch of sparkle.

House Mouse Hurray!

I was the lucky winner of a House Mouse stamp set on a blog hop for the House Mouse & Friends Challenge a few weeks ago...so when my prize arrived at the weekend (thanks Lols!), I couldn't resist inking it up right away. I picked this wee mouse to use first...just look how much fun he's having with those ribbons! I stamped on to kraft card, added a sentiment from the same stamp set, then coloured the image using watercolour pencils...but didn't add any water. I picked some papers from the 'Let's Celebrate' pad from Poundland to go with it...and added some faux stitching to everything using my CutterBee Bug and a black gel pen.

Sparkly Snowflakes

I have a Christmas card to share today...inspired by the 'All that Glitters' challenge over at Jingle Belles. I picked three different embossing glitters (by WOW) Metallic Silver Sparkle, Metallic Gold Sparkle & Fool's Gold and a piece of navy card, then stamped and embossed my Stampendous 'Delicate Snowflakes' along with a sentiment (from the 'Letter It Christmas' set by Ranger).

Cake Nibbler

Today's card features a cute Happy Hopper image called 'Cake Nibbler'...so cute! I coloured him using watercolour pencils, then cut him out using one of my circle Nesties. I added a few strips of candle covered washi tape (from a set from Poundland) to my card blank, a sentiment (from the 'Doodled Flowers' set by Happy Little Stampers), then popped the image on top using 3D foam pads.

The Same but Different

I have a set of simple Christmas cards to share today...made using another of the stamped background pieces I made when I made this card.

I stamped my new Simon Says Stamp 'Outline Snowflakes' stamp on to a piece of watercolour effect paper from the 'Mystery Marbles' pad by Craft Sensations using a white pigment ink, then heat embossed it with white embossing powder. I trimmed the panel down into three pieces, distressed the edges a little, added some faux stitching, then added them to three card blanks, along with a stamped sentiment (from the 'Letter It Christmas' set by Ranger.

Krafty Christmas

I have a simple Christmas card to share today...featuring some new goodies from Simon Says Stamp. I picked up a couple of their large background stamps 'Mod Trees' and 'Outline Snowflakes', and a set of calligraphy style sentiments by Ranger... the 'Letter It Christmas' set. I played around with the background stamps, stamping them a few different ways, with different inks on plain card, watercolour paper, patterned papers...and heat embossed...like the snippets I used on this card. I stamped on to kraft card using a white pigment ink pad, then heat embossed them using white embossing powder. I used small pieces of each of the two background stamps, along with one of the sentiments, fitting them on to a square of white card, and then adding that to a kraft card blank. I have lots of left over pieces...and all of the other stamped pieces...so no doubt you'll be seeing these stamps again soon!

Floral Delight

I have another simple CAS card to share today...this time featuring a floral stamp that I got for Christmas called 'Floral Delight' by Hobby Art. I stamped it on to watercolour paper, then coloured in soft pastel shades using watercolour pencils. I added some sparkle to the flowers using my Versamark embossing pen, and some Stampendous holographic embossing powder. The sentiment stamp is from a set that came free with a craft magazine.

Favourite Five Cards 2018

Today, I'm sharing my favourite (non-Christmas) cards of the year...I've included links back to the original blog posts, so please click through for the full info on any of the projects.

Crazy Dogs
I love these little weirdos...and picked up the matching die set this year to make my life a little easier! I love to group them all together as I find it impossible to choose just one to use!

Sorry I Forgot
This card is a bit fussier than my usual style, but I love the combination of colours.

Blossom Branch
This Penny Black stamp is one of my favourites of the year, and I experimented with several different ways of using it, but this simple coloured pencils on kraft technique is my favourite.

Uplifting Occasion
Of course, there had to be a Penny Black critter in among my favourites...and although pink is not one of my favourite colours, I can't help but smile at the expression on this kitty's face!

Big Blue Butterfly
Finally, another of my most used stamps of the year...a huge butterfly by Stampendous, combined with another of my favourites...a sparkly embossing glitter by WOW, and in my favourite colour too!

Before I go, I'd like to wish all of my lovely blog visitors a very Happy and Crafty New Year! See you in 2019!

Favourite Five Christmas Cards 2018

It seems to have become the Christmas Eve tradition in craft blogland to share our favourite five Christmas cards of the year, so that's what I'm going to do today. According to the Christmas card tracker in my sidebar, I made 99 Christmas cards this year...and I've just a had a look back through them all, and these are my favourites:

Polar Pals
This was the first Christmas card of 2018...blogged on New Year's Day! I made a few cards with a similar design...cute image, inky background, snowy sky...but picked this one for it's embossed falling snow.

Inky Snowflakes
This one is from February, along with my next pick, features a set of beautiful snowflake stamps by Stampenous and Distress Inks. This one has a 'smooshed' background with embossing over the top...and is in my favourite colour.

I'm skipping to October for my next choice...although these cards use similar supplies to the last one, I added the colour in a loose watercolour-y way over the top of the snowflakes for a more delicate effect.

Furry Christmas
My penultimate choice is from November, and although similar in layout to my first pick, uses a different technique...and features yet more snow!

Skating Critters
My final choice is from this month, and features my favourite Penny Black critters...well you knew I had to have a Penny Black in my favourites!

For full details of any of the cards, please click the photos.

One more thing before I go...I always share a picture of my Christmas cake on Christmas Eve too...so here it is:

Really simple, but with glittery sparkly snow.

Have a lovely Christmas everyone!

Pile It On! Challenge - Shaped Cards and/or Add a Charm

It's the third Sunday of the month, so that means it's time for some more inspiration, and an additional theme for this month's Pile It On! Challenge:

'Shaped Cards'
and/or
'Add a Charm'

Our sponsor this month is Crafty Sentiments
Prize - 3 Digis of the winner's choice!

I made a cute little circle card this time, cut using the largest of my scalloped circle Nestie dies...making sure to leave one of the edges outside of the die so it would hold together. I cut a smaller circle from a piece of green card, distressed the edge, added some faux stitching using my CutterBee Bug and a black gel pen, then embossed it using a folder by Couture Creations called 'Jolly Christmas'. The pup is from the 'Wintertime Cheer' set by Penny Black...I coloured him using watercolour pencils, then carefully cut him out, adding him to my card using 3D foam pads. The sentiment stamp is from a House Mouse set called 'Sleepy Stocking'.

Here are the challenges I've piled on:

Kraft & Gold Gift Wrap & Giftcard Holder

I've been busy wrapping presents today...and have a couple of simple ideas to share. I wrapped everything using kraft paper with gold polkadots (a bargain from the clearance section in Home Sense), and had previously made a set of personalised gift tags, so decorated a plain kraft gift bag to match. I stamped my Stampendous 'Delicate Snowflakes' stamps on to the bag using Versamark Ink, then heat embossed them with 'Metallic Gold Sparkle' embossing glitter by WOW.

Using some of the wrapping paper, I made a simple folded giftcard holder (I followed this tutorial by Kristina Werner)

I threaded some gold ribbon through a channel at the back, and tied it in a bow to hold it closed.

Gilded Snowflakes

I have a couple of Christmas cards to share today...featuring a mixture of Hero Arts (from the 'Winter Wishes' set) and Stampendous (from the 'Delicate Snowflakes' set) snowflakes, heat embossed using 'Fool's Gold' embossing glitter by WOW. I couldn't decide what colour background card to use, so made one using purple, and another using teal.

New Home

My parents moved house yesterday...and this is the card I made for them...I know they received it today, so it's safe to show it on here. I used stamps from the 'Family Home' set by Stampendous...stamping the houses on to snippets of patterned papers (from the 'Paper Hearts' pad by Crate Paper). I carefully cut them out, then added them to a scene made using more papers from the same pad (and one from the 'Frost & Snow' pad by Craft Creations for the sky). I distressed the edges of all of the papers, then added some faux stitching using my CutterBee Bug and a black gel pen. The sentiment was made using stamps from the 'Graffiti' Alphabet set by Paper Smooches.
