PBSC October - Anything Goes (Optional ' Black, White & One Other Colour')

It's the first Saturday of the month, so that means it's time for a new Penny Black Saturday Challenge...where the theme is:

'Anything Goes'
or
'Black, White & One Other Colour'

As usual, we are sponsored by the awesome 1-2-3 Stitch:
Prize - a $20 voucher!

I used the colour combination...adding orange...to decorate a Hallowe'en treat bag. Pairing one of the images from the 'Be Very Scared' set with papers from the 'Apothecary' pad by Echo Park. I used a Cuttlebug embossing folder to embossing the pumpkins on the plain-ish orange paper...sanding over the surface to reveal some of the white core. I distressed the edges a little, then added some faux stitching using my CutterBee Bug and a black pen.

I'm also entering this bag into the following challenges:

Blossom Branch Golden Wedding

Today's card is a golden wedding anniversary card made for a friend of mine to give to her parents next month. I stamped my Penny Black 'Blossom Branch' stamp across one corner of a panel of white card, then heat embossed it using 'Metallic Gold Sparkle' embossing powder by WOW. I added a sentiment (from the 'Everyday Messages' set by Happy Little Stampers), also heat embossed in the sparkly gold, and some die cut numbers (cut from gold glitter card using my Cuttlebug 'Olivia' alphabet dies. I lightly distressed the edges, matted the panel on to a piece of gold glitter card...and distressed the edges of that too before adding it to my card blank.

In an effort to show the sparkle...here's another photo:

Golden Wedding Anniversary

I have a golden wedding anniversary card to share today. I started by stamping a Tim Holtz background stamp (called 'Wallpaper') in Versamark Ink, then heat embossed it using 'Metallic Gold Sparkle' embossing glitter from WOW. I trimmed it down to a square, then matted it on to a piece of gold mirror card. I cut a couple of hearts from some more mirror card using my Cuttlebug 'Concentric Hearts' die, then embossed the solid one using a Craft Concepts embossing folder called 'Budding Vine'. I added them to the background using 3D foam pads. I heat embossed a sentiment (from the Lili of the Valley 'Block Sentiments' set) in matching gold, then matted it on to more gold mirror card, and added it popped up on some 3D foam pads.

I always find it difficult to show the sparkle of these gorgeous embossing glitters...but this photo gives you some idea of how pretty and glittery it is:

Crazy Dogs

I have a birthday card for a little boy to share today...featuring some of Tim Holtz's 'Crazy Dogs'. I coloured the dogs using watercolour pencils, then carefully cut them out. I used snippets of spotty papers (from the 'Awesome Boy' pad by Recollections/Michaels), placing a different colour in each corner of my card blank. I cut some apertures in a piece of kraft card using one of my circle Nesties for the dogs to peek through, and stamped a sentiment (from a set by Lili of the Valley) in the centre. I trimmed the dogs down, then added them using 3D foam pads, and a number sentiment in the final 'window' made using Nesties & my Cuttlebug 'Olivia' alphabet.

I found some snippets of brightly coloured patterned papers (all by My Mind's Eye...from the 'Merry Little Christmas' (pink & blue) and the 'Ooh La La (for Her)' (orange) pads). I cut some simple tree shapes using dies from the 'Reindeer' stamp & die set by Hero Arts & Sizzix...adding another tree cut from kraft card behind the paper for the brown 'trunk'. I made a simple background from snippets of white card...using my Cuttlebug 'Snowflakes' folder for the embossing. I used one of my 'Stitched Hillside Borders' dies to cut the curved ground, then cut it into a circle shape using one of my Nesties. The sentiment stamp is from the 'Scribbly Christmas' set by Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous.

PBSC June - Masculine!

It's the first Saturday of the month, so that means it's time for a new Penny Black Saturday Challenge...the theme this month is:

'Masculine'

As usual, we are sponsored by the awesome 1-2-3 Stitch:
Prize - a $20 voucher!

It's my Dad's 70th birthday next Saturday...so I used this challenge as an opportunity to get his card made. I used one of the dog images from the 'Man's Best Friend' set, stamping him three times, colouring them with watercolour pencils, and then fussy cutting them out. I made a background scene using plain card, freehand cutting some grassy hills. I made a sign from kraft, adding the '70' cut using my Cuttlebug 'Olivia' alphabet, then placed the dogs leaping over the sign. I doodled a simple border using a black gel pen, then added a sentiment from the 'Anytime Messages' set by Hero Arts.

It's my parents Ruby Wedding Anniversary (40 years) in a few days time...so this is the card I made for them (Mum if you're reading this...please look away...don't scroll down!). I picked some cute hedgies from the 'Every Which Way' set...colouring them using watercolour pencils. I used one of my Lawn Fawn 'Stitched Hillside Border' dies to cut a curve long the top, and added a Lili of the Valley sentiment, and some numbers cut using my Cuttlebug 'Olivia' alphabet. I added a couple of snippets of paper (from the 'Paper Hearts' pad by Crate Paper) to the top and bottom of my card blank, then mounted the image panel over the top on some 3D foam.

Pile It On! Challenge April - Interactive Cards and/or Birthdays

It's the third Sunday of the month, so we more inspiration for this month's Pile It On! Challenge, as well as a bonus theme. This month's main theme is:

'Interactive Cards'
(Think slider, shaker, pop-up, pocket)

and we have a bonus theme of:

'Birthdays'

Which you can use as an alternative, or combine for this month's challenge!

We are sponsored for this challenge by Gerder Steiner Designs:
Prize - $15 Store Coupon!

This time I made a shaker card for my parents who will be celebrating their Ruby Wedding Anniversary next month...this card is actually for my Nan to give to them, so you will be seeing another on my blog soon. I cut the aperture using my Cuttlebug 'Concentric Hearts' die...then pierced a border around the edges using my pokey tool. The cute hedgehogs are from the 'Every Which Way' set by Penny Black...I coloured them using watercolour pencils, then carefully cut them out. I cut the numbers from a snippet of red card using my Cuttlebug 'Olivia' alphabet, added a sentiment (from a set that was a magazine freebie), and filled the shaker with red heart shaped confetti.

Driving Along in My Automobile...

My Mum asked me to make an 80th birthday card for a man that likes cars...so, inspired by the one layer card with a 'Curve' challenge over at Less is More this week, this is what I came up with.  I cut a curve in the front of my card blank using one of my Lawn Fawn 'Stitched Hillside Border' dies, then stamped a racing doggy from the 'Hello Friend' set by Penny Black, and a sentiment from the 'Anytime Messages' set by Hero Arts. I coloured the image using watercolour pencils, then added some die cut numbers (cut using my Cuttlebug 'Olivia' alphabet dies) to the inside of the card.

Pile It On! Challenge - Monsters or Fairies

We have another fun new Pile It On! Challenge starting today, and the theme is:

'Monsters and/or Fairies'

We are sponsored for this challenge by Pink Gem:
Prize - Two Digi Images or Card Topper Kits of the winner's choice!

I'm not really one for 'Fairies', so I went the 'Monster' option and used an old Pollycraft image called 'Spike', which I coloured using watercolour pencils, then carefully cut him out. For the background, I used a mixture of papers...the green one if from the 'Simply Stated' pad by Recollections/Michaels, and the others are from the 'Stella & Rose - Mabel' pad by My Mind's Eye. I embossed a circle of kraft card using a Cuttlebug folder rather oddly called 'Charles' (!), then added some faux stitching using my CutterBee Bug and a black gel pen. The sentiments are from the 'Anytime Messages' set by Hero Arts.

Colourful Snowflakes

I have a Christmas card to share today that I made using some scraps of watercolour paper that I'd painted in a rainbow effect using Distress Inks whilst making these cards last weekend. I cut a couple of snowflakes using a Cuttlebug die from the purple/blue/green portion...then carefully trimmed one in half. I glued the snowflakes to a panel of white card...and added a Lili of the Valley sentiment, then mounted it on to my card blank using some foam tape.

Let it Snow!

I have a Christmas card to share today that I made over the Christmas/New Year break. I re-discovered an embossing powder in my stash...'Peppermint Stick' by Sparkle N Sprinkle...and tried it out stamping and heat embossing some snowflakes (a Hero Arts stamp) on to some watercolour paper ('smooshed' with various blue Distress Inks). I die cut some snowflakes from snippets of white card using Marianne Designs and Cuttlebug dies...then gave them a generous coating of the embossing powder too...it's a really pretty mixture of super sparkly pink, red and green glitter...but of course trying to get that to show in a photo is virtually impossible! The sentiment stamp is from a Penny Black set.

You can just about see the colours in the embossing powder on the white snowflakes on this close-up:

Inky Christmas

I have a set of Christmas cards to share today...inspired by these cards by Sandy Allnock. I started by smooshing three different combinations of Distress Inks on to watercolour paper...adding a few layers of ink, allowing each one to dry before adding the next. I cut panels of plain white card just a little smaller than my A6 card blanks, then used various Christmas dies to cut an aperture. I mounted the white panels over the inked paper on 3D foam pads, then attached them to my card blanks. The sentiment stamps are from the 'Scribbly Christmas' set by Tim Holtz for Stampers Anonymous.

I made a couple of each design:
