ABC Christmas Challenge - K is for...

We have a new ABC Christmas Challenge starting today...I'm the host, and the theme is:

'K is for Keep it Simple'

Our sponsor for this challenge is Faery Ink Digital Stamps:
Prize - 3 Digital Images of the winner's choice!

I like to 'keep it simple' on as many Christmas cards as possible...makes them quick(er) to make and (hopefully!) saves on postage too! I've used a Lili of the Valley image called 'Penguin Pals'. which I coloured using watercolour pencils, and then cut out. For the background, I simply layered a piece of snowflake paper (from the 'Merry Little Christmas' pad by My Mind's Eye) behind a piece of plain white card stamped with a sentiment (from the 'Joy to the World' set by Penny Black).

Beehave!

I've used an old favourite stamp on today's card...'Beehave!' by Penny Black. I paired it with some Studio Calico papers (from the 'Here & There' pad) and created a little scene using some dies ('Picket Fence' & 'Grassy Edges' by Die-namics, and 'Puffy Clouds' by Memory Box). The sentiment is from the 'Anytime Messages' set by Hero Arts.

Christmas Bunnies

I have a Christmas card to share today...using a Lili of the Valley image stamp called 'Winter Bunnies', which I coloured using watercolour pencils...I added some sparkle to the snowy ground using a Sakura Stardust pen, but it doesn't really show in the photo. For the background, I embossed plain card using my Cuttlebug and Sizzix folders. I distressed the edges a little, then added some twine (from Lakeland) and a button.

Pile It On! Challenge - Not Cute

We have a new Pile It On! Challenge starting today...and the theme is:

'Not Cute'

Our sponsor for this challenge is SLS Lines:
Prize either 3 Single Digital Images or $10 worth of Digital Merchandise from the SLS Lines store!

Considering that about 99.9% of my craft stash would be considered 'cute', I found this theme quite a challenge! I decided to go for an elegant/shabby chic look...and picked papers from the 'Vintage Charm' pad by My Mind's Eye. I cut the butterflies from some of the plainer papers in the pad using Memory Box and Joy Crafts dies, and layered them up...they're not exactly the same shape, but it worked quite well. I embossed the bottom one using my CuttleBug 'Tiny Bubbles' folder. I inked around the edges of everything with 'Tea Dye' Distress Ink...then distressed the edges of the green panel, and added some faux stitching using my CutterBee Bug and a black gel pen. The sentiment stamp is from the 'Big Sentiments' set by Paula Pascual, and the adhesive pearls are by Papermania.

Get Well Soon!

Wow...I can't remember the last time that I went a whole week without blogging! I've had a busy couple of weeks...and am looking forward to getting back into my craft room today, but before I do, I have a card that't been saved in my drafts folder for a couple of months waiting to be blogged. I needed a 'get well' card in a hurry for an elderly gentleman that comes to a chamber music class that I teach...so used scraps of brightly coloured card and my 'Olivia' Cuttlebug alphabet dies to make a simple card...I was aiming to make it look like fridge magnet lettering on a white fridge door:

Penny Black Saturday Challenge - Trees/Nature

It's the first Saturday of the month...so that means it's time for a new Penny Black Saturday Challenge...and this month the theme is:

'Trees or Nature'

We are sponsored for this challenge by:

Prize - a $20 voucher

I have a little collection of Christmas tree stamps...and picked 'Before the Snow' to use on my cards. I started by spritzing a piece of card with water, then stamped my tree several times using 'Peeled Paint' and 'Forest Moss' Distress Inks. Then I watercoloured the 'sky' background using 'Stormy Sky' and 'Faded Jeans' Distress Inks. Once the card had dried, I stamped the tress again over the top in the same colours to give a clearer impression. Then, I simply added a sentiment (from the 'Handwritten Christmas Messages' set by Lili of the Valley), distressed the edges a little, then matted using black card. I made two cards...just in case I messed up the stamping, but I think they both turned out ok...and that means two more Christmas cards for the pile, which is always good!
